Feature will avoid sending notification to all users and arrives soon; security tools were also introduced

now available on Telegram, who has access to WhatsApp Beta do Android just received the voice feature that allows people to talk without the need to make conventional calls. Voice chats, which resemble the app Clubhouse and the Spaces do Twitter, should arrive soon for everyone.

Another novelty that will also arrive soon for all users are the security tools, which can be activated whenever you receive messages from an unknown number. See all the information right now.

Voice chats for everyone coming soon

People who are enrolled in the WhatsApp for Android testing program and have the version 2.23.16.19 installed on their smartphones began to receive functionality that opens voice rooms in their applications. When a new voice chat is opened in a group, anyone can join and hear what is being discussed, as well as participate in voice chats.

The initial rules state that up to 32 people can be in the same audio room as the Meta, and when the feature is activated in a group, a call notification will not be sent to all participants. This happens when a new connection is started. Instead, a small silent notification will appear in your phone's notification bar.

Another confirmation is that everything that is discussed within the voice chats of the WhatsApp will have end-to-end encryption. In practice, only those inside the voice room will hear what is discussed, with no recordings saved on Meta's servers.

If a chat is started and no one joins within 60 minutes, it will automatically end. But at any time, any admin can start a new voice chat to start chatting.

The feature should be gradually released to users with the stable version, but it does not yet have a defined release date. The novelty has been tested since March 2023, but it has only now been released to more people. The public release is expected to be closer than we think.

Security Tools

Another novelty that is being tested to bring even more peace of mind to users are the Safety Tools automatically translated as Security Tools. In practice, whenever someone you don't have a saved contact with sends a message, some quick actions to block or report the number will be displayed as soon as you open the chat. See this example:

Tips will also be sent by Meta in the security tools. The company warns that the name and profile picture are defined by the user and it does not control this. A DDI (country code) check is also recommended before you start the conversation. And even if you open the chat, the read receipt will only be sent (if activated in your profile) if the tools are dismissed.

The tools are available for beta testers who have installed the latest iOS WhatsApp beta update from within the app. TestFlight and should be released to more people in the coming days, but a certain date for this to happen has not yet been announced.
