Whatsapp: how to send a fake location

Raphael Gosling Avatar
I had an idea these days and I discovered that it is possible to send a fake location to a friend on WhatsApp. Find out how it works.

Whatsapp

When sending the location to someone, the famous “Share Location”, the user receives a warning and can see on the map the exact location where the person is. The problem is, if we select this location sharing, we will have the option to replicate the notice to another contact or use the same information at a different time.

I'll give an example to make it easier to understand:

I'm downtown around 14 pm and I send my location to a friend. If at 0 pm I want to send the same notice to someone else, even though I'm already at home, I just need to resend the previous location! People will think I'm still downtown.

See below the option to share a ShareLocation:

It is not yet known if this is a BUG of the WhatsApp or just not noticed by the developers. We have forwarded these remarks to the app team and will await a response.

What's up? Do you still trust the locations you receive? Have you ever used this option to say you were in a different place? Leave your comment!
