Meta's application confirmed that news is coming "in the coming weeks" and will be available for conversations in private and in groups

It took a while, but the functionality will finally be among us: soon, everyone will be able to edit messages on WhatsApp. The feature has been available on competitor Telegram since 2016, and prevents a second message from being sent to correct the previous one.

A Meta announced that the possibility of doing this, now in the green messenger, is being tested globally and will be available to everyone soon. Understand how everything will work right now.

Appeal was requested years

Since 2016, the Telegram allows its users, either in private conversations or in groups with several people, to edit a sent message. It's a simpler (and faster) way than simply letting them know you've made a mistake in a word and having to send the content again.

But only in 2023 will one of the most used applications in the world gain functionality. In a post made on its novelty blog, the Meta confirmed that, as in Telegram, a warning indicating that what was sent was previously changed, with the signal “Edited message”. See the before and the after:

The resource is very simple and in the same way as in the Telegram. The update will be shown to whoever is on the other side of the conversation shortly afterwards.

But there are limitations: it will only be possible to edit a message sent within 15 minutes of sending it.

How to edit WhatsApp messages?

Released for a small portion of users, the possibility of rewriting a message in the WhatsApp should be available to everyone "in the coming weeks", according to a statement from the Meta. Using it is very simple: just press the message you want to change and choose the “Edit” option from the displayed menu. Check out the example:

Until the closing of this article, the feature was not yet available in Brazil, but we will update it as soon as it is released.

There is still no information about the required version of the application for Android e iOS to make use of the new feature to edit messages, but it will certainly be useful for conversations in private and in groups with many people.
