Winamp, the music player of the 2000s, will return in streaming

Streaming platforms are increasingly taking over people's routine - whether watching movies and series or listening to music. And the latter already has several names available such as Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music, but they will gain a new competitor: the Winamp, an application that was all the rage in the 2000s not only because it clashed with Windows Media Player, but mainly because it was a lighter media player that was completely customizable. The current owner of the brand, Llama Group, made a web version available — and will arrive soon on smartphones.

Winamp back in the area

The program was launched in 1997 with a very simple, but highly customizable interface, which ended up catching the attention of many users. It supported a variety of formats and offered a wide range of skins (visual customization of the app), viewers and even plug-ins that could add extra customization or bring support for more file formats. Now the popular music player is coming to mobile phones as well as a result of a major overhaul.

O Winamp, which now belongs to the company called Llama Group, is being explored in an expansion campaign. It starts with a new online player that at first glance might not seem as much as the famous app. In the coming months we'll see more of this action, with apps coming to iOS e Android, possibly following in the footsteps of the project that brings the reimagined app. Winamp's new approach is similar to that of Spotify or Apple Music, with one difference: instead of subscribing to the service to gain access to the platform's complete music library, the user can subscribe to artists What do you want individually and support them in that way. It's like a mix between the Patreon and Spotify.

For now the library is still small, having available tracks from some European and Vietnamese independent bands and singers, all with their catalogs locked, but which can be accessed through a monthly fee of US$ 1. For users who love independent music, it can be a great suggestion.

At some point users will also be able to play downloaded music and connect to other music streaming services, which might make things a little less frustrating. The structure presented in the website official it seems unfinished, although there is no information that we are dealing with some beta version of the music player. And trying to get even more into the wave of news, creators will also be able to distribute NFTs through the platform.
