Issues especially affect programs that rely on cache latency and single core performance

Released earlier this week by ecosystem, Windows 11 reduces AMD Ryzen performance by up to 15%. The alert was made by the AMD, who also said they were already working on a fix with Microsoft at this time. The effects are most noticeable in situations where latency weighs heavily on performance, such as competitive gaming.

According to the note released by the microprocessor manufacturer, two main problems with Windows 11 on Ryzen: na L3 cache latency, an internal component of the CPU, which can be up to three times larger when the system runs Windows 11; and in the resource “Preferred Core”, performance optimization function that pushes running tasks to the most powerful core on the chip.

Microsoft and amd have already announced that they are working on a patch to fix the problem
Microsoft and AMD have already announced that they are working on a fix that should be out in October.

As the performance loss stays around 3% to 5% in the first failure, in the second this number is more significant, representing up to 15% off in the processing power of the machine. The error in "Preferred Core” mainly affects users who often use the computer for competitive games, according to the statement.

The problem affects 180 AMD CPUs Compatible with Windows 11 of the most diverse architectures, such as the Zen + (AMD Ryzen 2000 series), Zen 2 (AMD Ryzen 3000 series) or Zen 3 (AMD Ryzen 5000 series). Some family models EPYC (servers) and Athlon (low cost) were also affected.

To solve the problem, AMD and Microsoft are working together on a patch that should be released later in the month of October. Most likely, the user will just have to update their computer as soon as possible to have all the performance restored.

To prevent their computers from degrading performance, we recommend that owners of PCs with processors AMD Ryzen wait for Microsoft to release the patch before updating the operating system to Windows 11.
