Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha launches with revolutionary display and 108MP camera

Take every screen concept you've seen so far in the mobile industry and forget about it. As promised, the Xiaomi held an event in China this Tuesday (24th) – Tuesday morning in Brazil – and presented to the world the Mi Mix Alpha, a smartphone with a display that covers no less than 180% of the device's body. And it doesn't end there: in addition to the innovative design, it inaugurates the first camera capable of taking photos above 100MP on a smartphone, in a partnership with Samsung. Check out all the details of this smartphone.

Edge-to-edge display – for real

Starting with the most prominent Mi Mix Alpha, the display (“Surround Screen”, name given to the new format) has 6,39 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels (404ppi density) and curved 4D technology. This technology is responsible for the excellent use of the smartphone's screen, which, according to the company, reaches an incredible 180.6%, taking into account the front and back of the device. As a result, the upper and lower parts of the Mi Mix Alpha are just 2.15mm thick relative to the screen.

Notice anything else missing besides the edges? The smartphone of Xiaomi has no hole for the front camera, since you can use the rear cameras to take selfies, according to the CEO of Xiaomi. As it is a concept smartphone, the “extended” screen does not perform several functions like the main one.

108MP camera in partnership with Samsung

This sensor capable of taking pictures of up to 108MP is the result of a partnership between Xiaomi and Samsung. O ISOCELL Bright HMX it has an aperture of f/1.6, OIS (optical image stabilization), Auto Focus, Laser Focus and Super Pixel. According to the demo, the pixels are combined into 2×2 squares and have better light sensitivity in darker environments, which in this case will produce 27MP images.

Complete the camera settings the second sensor with ultra wide lens (ultra wide angle) of 20MP and angle of 117° (aperture at f/2.2) and the third brings telephoto lens of 12MP and aperture of f/2.0. Videos can be recorded in up to 4K at 60fps, or in 1080p (Full HD) and 960fps.

Powerful technical specs

O Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha bring a processor Snapdragon 855 Plus, Qualcomm, built in 7nm and max clock up to 2,96GHz. This chipset is the latest from the company, so the best networking technologies like 5G, in addition to more potential for solutions in artificial intelligence, VR and games, are present on the smartphone. Allied to the processor, there is 12GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage and a 4.050mAh battery (with fast charging of up to 40W).

MIUI 11 exclusive to the curved screen

A Xiaomi developed a different and exclusive interface of the MIUI 11, new version of the launcher, on top of Android 10. According to the demonstration at the event, as the smartphone does not have side buttons, the software must simulate the pressure when the user wants to increase the volume, for example. In addition, there will be implementations to avoid accidental touches on the screen, improvement in icons, among other improvements.

O MIUI 11 officially arrives today in its Beta version, but only from the 27th of September will public Betas be launched, that is, for the consumer to be able to test before the official version.

Availability and price

Like Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha it is a concept smartphone, few units will be made available for sale, but it will hit the market in December 2019 by 19,999 yuan, which is equivalent, more or less, to US$ 2,800 (or about 11.600,00 BRL, in approximate conversion). The price charged is even more Galaxy fold, Samsung. The smartphone will be sold in white and black colors.
